Mike and Annika’s love story began 19 years ago when they first started dating in high school in Salina, Kansas. Despite a few breakups throughout the years, the couple always found their way back to each other. On February 22nd Mike and Annika became husband and wife at the Sedona Golf Resort in Arizona.
The couple’s dream of a warm escape from the midwestern wintry weather wasn’t meant to be as Arizona was hit with a large snowstorm that lasted three days. Sometimes in life, however, our blessings come in disguise. The snow was absolutely gorgeous as it blanketed the surrounding trees and rock formations. Mike and Annika didn’t get a textbook sunny Sedona wedding, they got something far more special.
Though the snow seemed to rarely let up, just before the ceremony it miraculously stopped, and the couple was able to have their outdoor ceremony as planned. Later in the evening Annika’s stepfather Dr. Mike Mueller summed up the change in weather in a touching toast, “I’m not a very religious person, but I think God wants you two to be together.”
In the end, the wedding day couldn’t have gone any better. There were so many fun moments of love and laughter between the bride and groom and their family and friends. Here are a few of the highlights:
Most romantic moment: Watching Mike kiss Annika for the first time after their snowy first-look.
Funniest moment: When Joe (Mike’s brother) fell face down in the snow during a snowball fight.
Cutest moment: watching the flower girls play during the ceremony. Apparently they didn’t empty their baskets while walking down the aisle because they just kept throwing them.
Most touching moment: When Annika’s grandmother and grandfather fed each other cake next to the same cake topper they had at their own wedding seventy years ago!
I hope you enjoy the gallery below. Mike and Annika’s wedding story turned out simply marvelous. Also, check out the shoutouts at the end!
Thank you so much Mike and Annika for allowing me to photograph your special day! You were both so fun, kind, polite, and genuine.
Thank you friends and family of the bride and groom. Way to enjoy yourselves, stay relaxed, and soak in the moments. You treated my wife and I so kindly and made us feel loved. You are greatly appreciated.
Thank you Lyndsey of Piper Elizabeth Studio who was my second photographer for the day. You had never driven in snow before and even rented a truck just so you could make it! You were funny, charming, and super helpful. You truly made the entire wedding party feel more at ease and your photographs are stunning.
One final shoutout to the staff of Sedona Golf Resort and Hilton Sedona Resort at Bell Rock. Anytime I needed to take a photo you were happy to allow us to move furniture or golf carts. That kind of hospitality and consideration does not go un-noticed.
